austin.favorites. ::south american food::

Did your mouth just drop? Did your eyes bulge? Can they hardly believe what they’re seeing? Me-blogging for the third day in a row. Me-using capitalization. That second part started as an accident, maybe I’ll fade it out as we go along. That first part, well, we’ll see how long i can keep me streak running.

Onwards to food, one of my favorite things to talk about, one of my favorite things to think about and one of my favorite things to love. Mmmm….yum. So this week, in honor of my parents who are currently living in Argentina, I’ll let you know my favorite place to get south american food here. A precious little restaurant know as:

Buenos Aires Cafe

Buenos Aires Cafe - Evening(i need to start taking pictures of these places myself, image search is somewhat disappointing)

This place is such a delightful treat! Here are some of the reasons why it’s the best:

  • It’s owned by a husband and wife from Argentina, meaning it’s authentic, not how a chef from amarillo thinks argentine food should taste.
  • The wife specialized in pastries, and wow. Every dessert we’ve tried on the menu is outstanding!! The cuatro leches is my favorite though Evan (who usually doesn’t care for dessert) opts for the dark and spicy chocolate creme brule. We usually have a vote at the end of our meal to decide which dessert wins.
  • The atmosphere is really nice and cozy with good lighting. It has a nice restaurant vibe with out being pretentious.
  • Empanadas. Yum. Perfectly flaky and savory with a great chimichurri sauce.
  • Good malbec selections. That always gets you lots of points in my book.
  • The best reason though, is that it got my argentina loving father’s stamp of approval, which carries much more weight than mine.

So come to Austin and we’ll head downtown to buenos aires cafe, where we can eat, drink and be very merry.

  1. Dark and Spicy Chocolate Creme Brule? Chris and I will be there tomorrow! 🙂

  2. A dark chocolate creme mixed with cayenne and a hint of ancho’s smokeyness. Of course garnished with a sliced strawberry and sprig of mint. With a cup of coffee, this is pretty close to perfection.

    What time are we meeting there tomorrow? Because you have me craving now…
